The ‘Ivy Leaf’ from the Almagest is, of course, also a flat formation comprising countless faint stars – a star cluster and its surroundings. The IAU selected one of the three stars mentioned by Ptolemy to define the area using three point coordinates, and named the star accordingly. With this name, we also see a phenomenon common to modern star names, namely that they are not always grammatically correct in classical languages: in Ptolemy’s text, the name appears in the accusative case within a sentence, and the original proposal for the name was to use the accusative form to reflect the source text. However, this was not what was done; instead, a classical philologist prevailed in her view that the noun (leaf) should be in the nominative case – though she did not wish to apply this to the modifier (ivy) as well, reasoning ‘because that is how it appears in Ptolemy’, i.e. to make people wonder. In astrophysics it makes no difference – but classical philologists might be puzzled by the name ‘Phyllon Kissinou’.

	The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2024/05/16.		Incidentally, we see a similar phenomenon in the neologism ‘[[Parumleo]]’ (which should correctly be ‘parum leone’) coined by a NEWC.

			Following the philologists and historians, the star 23 Com is named Phyllon Kissinou. The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2024/05/16.
