Kornephoros is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Greek. It is the name of HIP 80816 (β Her, HR 6148) in constellation Her.

Etymology and History

From the Greek word κορυνηφόρος, "club-bearer", mentioned in one Renaissance study as a name for the constellation Hercules. Properly it is of mythological rather than astronomical significance, for Ptolemy's constellation here was "the Kneeler", described without a club. "Kornephoros" was applied as a star name in recent times.

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2016/08/21.
