Chalawan is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Thai. It is the name of HIP 53721 (47 UMa, HR 4277) in constellation UMa.

Etymology and History

Chalawan is a mythological crocodile king from a Thai folktale.
