Polis is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Coptic. It is the name of HIP 89341 (μ Sgr, HR 6812) in constellation Sgr.

The term in Coptic means "a foal". It was originally used for stars in the bow of the Archer but was moved over time.
