Sheliak is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 92420 (β Lyr, HR 7106) in constellation Lyr.

Etymology and History

Applied in recent times from the sci-A constellation name al-salbaq, "the Harp", for Lyra. Salbaq was a Greek loanword in Arabia, and was one of three names of musical instruments used by the sci-Arabs for Lyra. Still other names were alsulalfat, and al-lura.

Mythology

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2016/08/21.
