Alzirr is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 32362 (ξ Gem, HR 2484) in constellation Gem.

Etymology and History

Arabic الزِرّ , al-zirr, "the button". Allen (1899) attributes the name to Al Birūnī and it certainly does not have Greek roots as it is located at the foot of the eastern Twin, Pollux.
