Šiḫṭu

(mul)Šiḫṭu (𒀯𒅆𒄴𒂅), 'The Leap' is an Akkadian term for Sunrise, and also for the planets Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter, presumably as morning stars [ CAD[1] Š/2, 417a], from the verb šahātu, 'to jump, to leap, to jump up, to jump over something, in this case to 'jump over the horizon.' Interestingly, the Sumerian equivalent of this verb is GU4.UD [CAD[1] Š/1, 88], which is the most common name for Mercury in Sumerian ( mulGU4.UD).
