Adhil is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 6411 (ξ And, HR 390) in constellation And.
Etymology and History

From the Arabic word al-dhail, "the train of a robe or dress", used in the Arabic Almagest in describing A and χ And, and transliterated in the Medieval Latin Almagest as adhil. This word was wrongly applied as a star name to ξ And in recent times.
