Pincoya is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is NEWC. It is the name of HIP 88414 (HD 164604) in constellation Sgr.
Etymology and History
Pincoya is a female water spirit from southern Chilean mythology who is said to bring drowned sailors to the Caleuche so that they can live in the afterlife.
