Alkarab is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 115623 (υ Peg, HR 8905) in constellation Peg.

Traditional Arabic name Al Karab, The Bucket-rope, was an asterism consisting of τ and υ Peg
