Praecipua is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Latin. It is the name of HIP 53229 (46 LMi, HR 4247) in constellation LMi.
Etymology and History
Piazzi (1814) in his star catalogue introduced this proper name for the star because Hevelius (1690) had added the adjective "praecipua" (Chief) as a description of this star.
Mythology
IAU Working Group on Star Names
The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2017/06/30.
