Mpingo is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is NEWC. It is the name of WASP-71 in constellation Cet.

Mpingo is a famous tree that grows in southern Tanzania and produces ebony wood used for musical instruments and curios.
