Segin is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is unknown. It is the name of HIP 8886 (ε Cas, HR 0542) in constellation Cas.

Etymology and History

Name of unknown etymology from the "Atlas Coeli Skalnaté Pleso" of Czech astronomer Antonín Bečvář (1901–1965). It is possibly an abbreviated form of Seginus which derives from the name of the constellation and emerged from several corrupted translations from Greek to Arabic and from there to Latin.
