Formosa is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Portuguese. It is the name of HIP 56508 (HD 100655) in constellation Leo.

Etymology and History

Formosa is the historical name of Taiwan used in the 17th century, meaning beautiful in Latin.
