Maasym is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 85693 (λ Her, HR 6526) in constellation Her.

Etymology and History

From the Arabic word al-mi'sam, "the wrist", used in the Arabic Almagest in describing o Her. Wrongly transferred to λ Her in Renaissance times.

Mythology

IAU Working Group on Star Names

The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2016/09/12.
