Gnomon is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Greek. It is the name of WASP-43 in constellation Sex.

Etymology and History

The gnomon (γνώμων) is a basic astronomical instrument, like a sundial, whose shadow length and direction can indicate time or determine latitude.
