Zhang is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Chinese. It is the name of HIP 48356 (υ1 Hya, HR 3903) in constellation Hya.
Etymology and History
Determinitive star of lunar mansion Zhang (The Stomach [of the Red Fire Bird] or a Bow or Bird Catcher, an Extended Net, Spread or "to open") whose naming constellation consists of 6 stars according to sources back to the 3rd millennium BCE.
Mythology
IAU Working Group on Star Names
The name was adopted by the IAU WGSN on 2017/06/30.
