Quaoar is a trans-Neptunian object (TNO) and dwarf planet candidate located in the Kuiper Belt, a cold region beyond Neptune's orbit. It has one satellite, Weywot.

Quaoar was discovered by the American astronomers Chad Trujillo and Michael Brown on 4 June 2002.

Origin of Constellation

Quaoar was named after the Tongva mythology, a creator god who emerged from chaos and sang the song of creation to bring forth other gods, animals, nature, and humans.
