Shama is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Urdu. It is the name of HIP 55664 (HD 99109) in constellation Leo.

Etymology and History

Shama is an Urdu literary term meaning a small lamp or flame, symbolic of the light of the star.
