Alterf is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 46750 (λ Leo, HR 3773) in constellation Leo.
Etymology and History
Applied in recent times from the ind-A lunar mansion name al-tarf, "the Glance", for κ Cnc and λ Leo, associated with the ind-A asterism al-asad, as if being located on that lion's eyes.
