Sedna is a dwarf planet candidate and has the longest orbital period of any known object in the Solar System of its size or larger.

Sedna was discovered on 14 November 2003 by the American astronomers Michael Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz.

Origin of Constellation

Sedna was named after the Inuit mythology goddess. Sedna is the goddess of the sea and the ruler of the frozen underwater world.

IAU Nomenclature

The name for this body was accepted by the IAU in September 2004.
