Copernicus is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Latin. It is the name of HIP 43587 (55 Cnc, HR 3522) in constellation Cnc.

Etymology and History

Nicolaus Copernicus or Mikolaj Kopernik (1473-1543) was a Polish astronomer who proposed the heliocentric model of the solar system in his book "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium".
