Mekbuda is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is Arabic. It is the name of HIP 34088 (ζ Gem, HR 2650) in constellation Gem.
Etymology and History
From an abbreviation of the ind-A asterism name dhira' al-asad al-maqbuqa, "the Lion's Folded Paw". Arbitrarily applied as a star name to ζ Gem in recent times.
