Nekkar is a modern star name adopted by the International Astronomical Union in the IAU-Catalog of Star Names (IAU-CSN). Its origin is corrupted. It is the name of HIP 73555 (β Boo, HR 5602) in constellation Boo.

Etymology and History

Applied in recent times from a misreading of the Arabic constellation name al-baqqar, "the Ox-driver", for Boötes.
