Mesopotamia is the land between and around the two rivers Euphrates and Tigres. In the 3rd and early 2nd millennium BCE, the Indo-Germanic language Sumerian was the written in cuneiform. In the late 2nd millennium the Semitic languages became predominant, first the Akkadian, later Aramaean language.
